Post-Doctoral positions in molecular genetics of alcoholism

Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine
Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics

We are seeking two post-doctoral candidates to work on the Irish Study of the Genetics of Alcoholism. The sample includes >600 affected sibling pairs with alcohol dependence plus parents, and >1000 community controls collected in Ireland. We recently completed a 5 cM genome scan and linkage analysis is just underway. We plan to hire two individuals: (1) A Molecular Geneticist who would supervise a full-time technician on the routine laboratory work and take primary responsibility for the organization and execution of the fine-mapping work, candidate gene studies, and replication studies within this sample and across samples. (2) A Statistical Geneticist to conduct linkage, case-control and within-family association analyses. The statistical position also involves work on and the Irish Study of High Density Schizophrenia Families (275 multiplex schizophrenia families, >900 unrelated cases and >1000 community controls). Both positions offer opportunities for collaboration, publication, and career development.

Investigators at VCU include Carol Prescott (PI), Brien Riley (Lab Director), Kenneth Kendler (co-PI), Sam Chen, Lindon Eaves, Edwin van den Oord and Michael Neale.
