As an assistant professor of political science at Virginia Commonwealth University, a post doctoral research fellow at the Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics, and visiting scientist in the department of Genetic Epidemiology at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, my research attempts to elucidate an improved insight regarding what drives behavior by integrating an understanding of biological predispositions with the stimuli humans encounter in a social context. Connecting genes to relevant biological systems, to cognitive processing which dynamically shape preferences and behaviors on core elements of group life that mediate the observed relation between genes, individual preference structures and expressed preferences, I have a wide focus including: social and political values, fundamentalism, ideology, voting behaviors, terrorism, parental care, social bonding, fear, and the impact of policy positions on the psychological well being of the public.
