Check that you have a file called .forward in your home directory
so that mail gets forwarded from here to wherever you usually receive
it (unless that's on this system!).
The file should contain the email address, e.g.,
joeuser@hsc.vcu.edu
- Please try not run more than 2 jobs at a time.
To see how to batch jobs to run sequentially, enter:
less ~neale/sys/howtobatch or click here
To see how many you have running, enter
top
or ps -u$user
- Review unix commands at
http://views.vcu.edu/ucsmcv/unix.html
(if you don't have access to netscape, use
lynx http://views.vcu.edu/ucsmcv/unix.html
to browse the web without graphics using tab and enter keys).
- SOFTWARE: please see the
software page for details on
software at VIPBG computing.
- SECURITY. By default, directories and files you create will be
visible to anyone on the system. Others will be able to see them and copy
them. This is true for almost all files except your mail folders, so
folks won't be able to read your email. If you wish to change the default
access (which is often convenient) then see the instructions at
http://www.vipbg.vcu.edu/lub/security.html
- Let
Helen or Mike
know if you have problems or questions (about VIPBG
computing!)
- Printing. a2ps is a useful utility to save paper when printing large
outputs. See man a2ps for details and
http://www.vipbg.vcu.edu/lub/printing.html for more details.
